We Vermonters, living in the Green Mountain State, have long embraced the "green" lifestyle. For us, eating local organic veggies, recycling and buying eco-friendly products is a regular, every-day kind of thing. As our collective interests in local farms, artist's studios, and sustainable design has increased, thankfully, so have the venues to support a greener lifestyle.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mike Hassenberg at a Burlington city council meeting when he was in the early stages of opening his business, The Green Life. A husband and father, with three young children, Mike has taken his concern for our environment and turned it into an entrepreneurial dream-come-true. A green life in a green state, for the benefit of the next generations.
"We created The Green Life to make it easier for our customers to buy products that are sustainable, recycled, upcycled or made of eco-friendly materials like organic cotton or bamboo. Buying green goods helps reduce the amount of waste filling up landfills, helps protect our natural resouces, and helps reduce the toxins and chemicals surrounding us."

About The Hassenbergs
The owners of The Green Life, Michael and Shannon Hassenberg, are a husband and wife team.
Shannon always dreamed of owning her own boutique. Mike has an ever increasing concern over the health of our planet. Both wanted to learn how to minimize their impact on the Earth. Wanting to live a more sustainable lifestyle and provide a healthier home for their three young children, Shannon’s urban style and Mike’s eco-awareness combined to create The Green Life, a unique shopping experience in Burlington, Vermont
Mike and Shannon carefully handselect each item they sell at their shop. With an eye for style, but never losing sight of eco-friendly attributes, The Green Life is "guilt-free" retail therapy for the environementally minded.
Recently, The Green Life starting carrying some of The Bobbin's unique sustainable Vermont made products. It's a wonderful pairing of two local Burlington businesses with socially responsible practices.
The Green Life is located at 67 Main Street in Burlington. Stop by for a visit on your way to ECHO Lake Aquarium & Science Museum or take in a little shopping break after lunch at August First Bakery.
